Our story

A student, a teacher, and a lot of chai

I'm Muddassir. I run a printing business in Pakistan. Zayaan is my English teacher in Cape Town, South Africa. I built this website in her honour.

We met by chance

Neither of us planned it. We met by chance, and very quickly we realised our energy matched perfectly. Zayaan is warm, patient and very talented. She can tell when I'm stuck and when I just need a moment to find the word.

Lessons we actually enjoyed

We literally enjoy our lessons. Topics that would normally be boring, like articles, tenses and business vocabulary, became easy because we laughed and talked our way through them. Zayaan never stopped me in the middle of a sentence to correct me. She let me finish, picked a few things to fix, and always told me one thing I said well. Then I said it again, better.

In just three months I started speaking basic English. I don't mean perfect English. I mean real English, with real customers, without freezing.

A teacher who loves chai and Urdu

Zayaan loves South Asian culture, especially Pakistani and Indian culture. She's a true chai fan. She also loves Urdu and says it is a poetic language. So our lessons became a small cultural exchange: talking about my own culture in English, to someone who really wanted to hear about it, turned out to be some of the best speaking practice I ever had.

Why this website exists

Zayaan changed how I see learning a language. It isn't something you memorise. It's something you do, with someone whose energy matches yours. Learn Angrezi is my thank-you to her. It is free, and it's built on the way she taught me: speak first, fix one thing, speak again.

Meet the cast of the lessons

Muddassir

The learner. Runs a printing business, so his examples are about customers, quotes, deadlines and suppliers. Sometimes forgets a word. Never stops talking.

Zayaan

The teacher, in Cape Town. Her examples come with chai, Urdu poetry and her friends Talia, Nafeesah and Faatima. She asks great questions and corrects gently.

Lesson dialogues are practice scenarios inspired by our real lessons. The friends' and customers' names in them are made up.
