Find your teacher

You can meet your perfect English teacher too

I learned to speak English because I found the right teacher. Zayaan let me finish my sentences, fixed one thing at a time and made every lesson fun. In three months I was speaking basic English with real customers. This page explains how you can find a teacher like that, and how to try one for 70% less.

Why a real teacher speeds up speaking

Free lessons, apps and videos are excellent for input: hearing and reading English. Speaking is different. It improves fastest when you speak to a real person, they react, and you adjust. Language researchers have described this for decades:

  • Conversation creates learning moments. Michael Long's interaction research describes how a listener's questions (“Sorry, you mean…?”) push you to rephrase. That is when new language sticks.
  • Feedback works best as a nudge. Lyster and Ranta (1997) found that learners corrected their own mistakes more often when the teacher prompted them to try again, instead of just giving the answer. A good tutor does exactly that.
  • A kind teacher lowers anxiety. Horwitz, Horwitz and Cope (1986) showed how the fear of being judged keeps learners quiet. The right teacher makes speaking feel safe, so you actually practise.

That is the Learn Angrezi method: speak first, fix one thing, speak again. Our free lessons let you practise the loop alone. A teacher makes the “fix one thing” step personal.

What is Preply?

Preply is an online marketplace for one-to-one lessons. You choose your own tutor, book a time that suits you, and learn by video call. According to Preply, it has 100,000+ tutors from 180+ countries, including tens of thousands of English teachers, and you can try another tutor for free if you're not satisfied with your first one. You can filter tutors by price, availability, specialty (business English, conversation, IELTS, kids) and the languages they speak, so you can find one who speaks Urdu or Hindi if that helps you.

How to choose the right teacher: 5 steps

  1. Write down one goal. “Talk to customers without freezing” is better than “improve my English”.
  2. Filter, then shortlist three. Price, times that suit you, and a specialty that matches your goal.
  3. Watch their intro videos. Can you understand them easily? Do they sound warm and patient?
  4. Book a trial lesson with your favourite (that's the one with 70% off).
  5. Judge the trial by how much YOU spoke. Use the checklist below.

Trial lesson checklist

The best teacher is not the one with the fanciest profile. It's the one whose energy matches yours. After your trial, ask yourself:

  • Did I speak for more than half of the lesson?
  • Did they let me finish before correcting me?
  • Did they correct a few important things, not everything?
  • Did they ask me to try again, so I could fix it myself?
  • Did they tell me something I did well?
  • Did I enjoy it, and do I want to come back?

If most answers are “yes”, you've found your teacher. If not, try another one. That's what the trial is for.

  • Ask your teacher to follow the loop: you speak first, they fix one thing, you speak again.
  • After the lesson, save 3 new phrases and recall them tomorrow in Recall practice.
  • Between lessons, play the word games and use AI as a practice partner.

Questions

Do I need a teacher to learn English?

No. You can make real progress with free practice, and everything on Learn Angrezi is free. A teacher helps when you want live feedback, a plan for your goal, and a regular reason to speak.

How often should I take lessons?

One or two lessons a week, plus a few minutes of practice on the other days, is a pace most people can keep. Regular, spaced practice beats one long session.

Why do you recommend Preply?

Because it lets you choose your own teacher, try them first and switch if they're not right, which is how we think it should work. We use a referral link, which is disclosed on every page where it appears.
